GenStat Discovery Edition Survey 2008

Thank you for all your responses so far! We have received nearly 300 replies, and we intend to keep the survey open for at least another month. So do tell other GDE users you know, who may wish to contribute their thoughts and comments. We thought you may like to see some of the kind comments we have received:

“I really find GenStat easier to use than Minitab or SPSS or SAS especially in the analysis of variance, also, all my students find that.”

“I had been using Minitab for statistical analysis work which requires correct models to be fed in for it to work. GDE is much easier and powerful to use.”

“Even if it is not free, I will buy and use it because it is user friendly and easy tool to use for statistical analysis.”

“to me GDE is still the best package as far as data analysis is concern, because it contained analytical procedures for design experiment and social science as well as geosciences”

“Well we would not use it if it was not free but other software, like R, is also free but my colleagues and I believe that a menu driven package is much easier to teach with and lets the students focus on the statistics and not the syntax. GDE is, to my knowledge, the only free, menu drive, high level package available.”

“I am used to Genstat for over 10 years. I am happy with the window version which is simpler to use than SAS that is also used in my Institute. One other advantage of GenStat is that if you make mistake in the set up e.g. unequal replication you would be inform and the program will not run unlike SAS.”
