In Excel you can set up named ranges to pre-specify rectangular areas for GenStat to retrieve when you
import data from Excel. When data are opened from an Excel file GenStat will list all the named ranges (using
prefix of R:) along with the worksheets (prefixed with S:) in the file.
To create a named range in Excel, select the range of cells you want with either the mouse or holding the Shift key down
while using the cursor movement keys.
Once you have the rectangle selected, you can name the range in two ways:
- Use the Insert|Name|Range menu and enter a name.
- Click on the small box in the top left which usually contains the current cell
address, type in the range name in this box and then press the enter key (as shown to the below).
Save the workbook for the named range to become available to GenStat.
