<  ASReml  ~  ASReml V3 running problem

Hi,

I seem to have the same problem that Johan experienced last January. I’m running a multivariate model with ASReml version 3. It reaches a logical conclusion for diagonal incidence matrices but when I try to fit correlations to a random effect I get the same error message as Johan (“forrtl: severe (66): output statement overflows record, unit -5, file Internal Formatted Write”). The program simply stops after six iterations. The particular numbers in the subsequent lines are different to those of Johan. I obtained a debug file (.asl) but of course it doesn’t make sense to me! Damien Collins offered assistance to Johan in January – did some conclusion arise from this investigation?

Thanks in advance,
Andrew Callister.

Hello!

What is wrong? I have installed Asreml 3.00, and have problem running a multitrait-site model as it just stops without finalizing any output (tested on 32 and 64bites computers). When using 2.00 everything seems to work fine. I get the following message in V3.00:
Code:

forrtl: severe (66): output statement overflows record, unit -5, file Internal Formatted Write

Dear Andrew,

It would appear you have tripped at the same BUG that Johan discovered.

The problem was generated because the CORGH structure has become singular or maybe negative definite. There is a problem with the error message reporting this.

ASReml does not have good ways at keeping a CORGH structure positive definite. I suggest you use a US structure for which ASReml has better control (and it will avoid this error message).

The bug has been fixed but the fixed version has not been recompiled and validated (and then distributed) by VSN yet.

Thanks Arthur,
It does work better with the US structure.
Regards,
Andrew.
