CycDesigN

The GenStat – CycDesigN link

CycDesigN is a package for computer generation of experimental designs which constructs optimal or near-optimal block and row-column designs; see the CycDesigN Manual, or the book Cyclic and Computer Generated Designs by John & Williams (1995). VSN has collaborated with the authors of CycDesigN to build an interface to their algorithms that can be run from menus in GenStat.

You can implement the interface in your copy of the 12th Edition of GenStat for Windows by clicking below to download a zipped file containing the relevant files:

File name: Cycaddin.zip

Installation

Extract Cycaddin.zip into your GenStat system AddIns folder. This is a folder called AddIns which can be found alongside the Bin folder file that contains the GenStat 12th Edition executable program. For most installations the folder will be C:\Program Files\Gen12ed\AddIns.

The files include a library of procedures has been constructed to call a program CycDesRun that links to the CycDesigN algorithms; the output from CycDesRun is read back into GenStat to form the relevant design factors. There are also GenStat add in and resource files to define user menus.

Once the files have been installed correctly, an option “User” will appear on the GenStat menu bar, containing sub-options to open menus to form block and row-column designs. Details of how to use the menus are given in their help pages, which can be opened by clicking on the ‘help’ button on the bottom left of the menu window.

License

Note, however, that before you can use the link, you must obtain a license for CycDesigN (see cycdesign FAQs for details). This must then be placed into the GenStat system AddIns folder, with the interface files.
